Last week, Year 11 Media students visited the University of Salford’s MediaCity campus to find out what a future in creative media could look like.
The day began with a welcome talk exploring the many career paths available across the media industry. After that, students headed to the university radio station for a practical workshop, where they played a round of ‘Truth or Trash’.

It was a great chance for them to get behind the microphone and try out professional broadcasting equipment, including a Catchbox microphone, while learning more about how radio programmes are produced.
After lunch, students were taken behind the scenes of the university’s production facilities.

The tour included a newsroom, green screen studio, video editing suites and two television studios, giving students an insight into the environments used by media professionals and university students alike.

To finish the day, students heard from a lecturer specialising in video editing, who shared his experiences of working in the industry and explained where a career in digital media could take them.
The trip to the University of Salford’s MediaCity campus was a fantastic experience for our students, and many came away feeling inspired to explore further study and careers in the creative industries.
