On Monday 2nd March, Hazel Grove Sixth Form hosted a truly special Iftar, bringing together students, families, staff, and members of our wider community.

This wonderful event was initiated and organised by our Sixth Form Cabinet, who wanted to create a meaningful opportunity for our school community to come together, learn, and share in the spirit of Ramadan.

Iftar is the name of the evening meal eaten by Muslims at sunset to break their fast during Ramadan. Throughout the day, many students and staff took part in a voluntary fast to build empathy and understanding for those observing Ramadan.

Some of our Sixth Form students also chose to attend school in traditional and cultural dress, celebrating identity and showcasing the diversity within our community.

During the event, we learned more about the meaning and traditions of Ramadan from Cheadle Mosque and from our own students.

We then came together at sunset to break the fast and share a warm community meal which was generously donated by Cheadle Mosque.

A huge thank you to the Sixth Form Cabinet for their leadership and organisation, and to everyone who attended and supported the evening!
