It was a week of celebrations around all things reading as we celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 3 March at Hazel Grove!

There was a range of activities, competitions and promotions all themed around the magic of reading and encouraging all students, teachers and support staff to try something new.

Events included a Dragons’ Den best book pitch, Lunchtime Lectures featuring ‘The Book That Changed My Life’, Masked Reader and Literary Quotations quizes, Six-Word Story and Word Play competitions, a book stall with a free book giveaways.

Year 7 students virtually welcomed author Lisa Thompson into their lessons to discuss her novel The Boy Who Fooled the World via video chat.

While Year 9 students had a visit from author, performer and poet Andy Craven-Griffiths where he held a poetry slam workshop and a lunchtime Q&A.

Staff took part in the annual fancy dress competition where each department dressed up as characters from a book. The fantastic student judges had a hard time deciding, but top prize went to the Maths department for their creative costume efforts based on children’s classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, while Science received a special ‘comedy’ mention for their Jurassic Park inspired theme.

Earlier in the month the Library hosted an action-packed evening of wizardry for our Year 7 Harry Potter fans and the Library transformed into a tribute to the magical world of Hogwarts, Diagon Alley and Hogsmede.

Students took part in themed competitions, crafts and games as well as some butterbeer refreshment to celebrate Harry Potter Book Night 2022.
