At the end of last term, students interested in A Level Maths were given the opportunity to attend some interactive taster sessions.

Teachers from the Maths department have been running various sessions aimed at preparing students for A Level Maths.

teacher explains a mathematical concept to class in taster session

In an ‘Introduction to Mechanics’ session ran by Mrs Nash, students put their pedals to the metal to answer some interesting questions;

‘If you drop a ball when riding a bike, which way does it go?’

Student rides a bike and drops a ball to find out the answer to the question of which way the ball will roll

‘When the pedals on your bike are moving in a forward circular motion, could the bike be made to travel backwards?’

Student tries to find the answer to the question: When the pedals on your bike are moving in a forward circular motion, could the bike be made to travel backwards?

With our newly redeveloped Sixth Form opening in September, this was a fantastic way for Year 11 to explore the sorts of mathematical concepts that will be taught at A Level.
