A group of Year 9 girls attended a virtual cryptography event recently as part of the North West Festival of Women in Mathematics and we are delighted that one of our group, Amelie, achieved 3rd place!

Even though she was isolating, Amelie showed brilliant aptitude, drive and resilience and has been awarded a Headteacher’s badge.

The online event encouraged students to discover the mathematics behind cryptography with Open University academic Dr Katie Chicot. Participants delved into the ancient science and art of cryptography and put their mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities to the test breaking ancient and modern codes.

The event provided an insight into the careers of female mathematicians and statisticians.
