Safeguarding
What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s mental health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and acting to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Within the Laurus Trust, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Our approach is child-centred and we consider, at all times, what is in the best interest of the child.

Operation Encompass
Hazel Grove High School works with the Manchester Safeguarding Board and Greater Manchester Police through Operation Encompass, a scheme that helps schools provide timely support for children who may be affected by domestic abuse.
The project has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school but which might have an impact on a child attending school the following day. This information will be shared on school days during the school term. When incidents occur on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, the police will contact the school the following Monday.
A nominated member of school staff, known as a Key Adult, will be trained to liaise with the police.
At Hazel Grove High School, our Key Adults are Mrs K Pearson, Assistant Head of School, and Miss B Parry, Head of Pastoral Care.
They will use the information shared with them, in confidence, to ensure that the school is able to support children and their families. Information is shared when a child or young person has been present at, witnessed, or involved in a domestic abuse incident.
