Year 11 – Macclesfield College Taster Day

This year we again took the opportunity to travel over to Macclesfield College for our College Taster day 2019.  Sixty students from Year 11 were able to take part in a range of lessons across the site, experience the culture and surroundings as well as receiving a talk on the Apprenticeship route post 16.  It was an invaluable day with an opportunity to experience learning experiences that are not available in our 6th Form.  This included Childcare, Light Motor Vehicles, Joinery and Brickwork, Hairdressing, Catering, Animal Management, Photography and Beauty Therapy.  Last year, leavers from June 2019, approximately 15% of the students not studying A Level at Post-16 choice to go to Macclesfield College, using the direct bus services available.

Careers Enterprise

On Tuesday 19 November we attended a Business Enterprise Event at Stockport Town Hall allowing our students to prove their business enterprise skills.  Three groups of Year 10 students represented our school as well as one team from our Sixth Form. The group face heavy competition from other school and colleges in the local area as there designed, planned, promoted and presented a concept of “A home of the Future” for Stockport Homes.  It was great to see some amazing ideas from all the school but especially good to see one of our Year 10 teams and our Sixth Form team both win first prize in their age group.  They were presented with a trophy and a reward of £1000 for the school.

The following students won the Year 10 event and year 12 the Colleges event.

Careers Fair – Colleges and Businesses 2019

“On Friday 04 October we held our Annual College and Careers Fair in our School Hall.  This year we were lucky enough to have over 50 representatives from different colleges and businesses.  All the local colleges were able to provide our students with advice regarding courses and possible pathways for Post 16 education, including specialist Apprenticeship providers.  In addition, three Universities were present to give further advice regarding degrees and Post 18 routes.  This year we also secured the support of several local and national businesses that came in just to offer advice and information about careers in their particular field.  This included NHS, Manchester Airport Group, Nat-West/RBS, ARUP, UK Fast and Marriot Hotel Group as well as a host of other Businesses.  For the second Year Proseal UK came in to the school to promote their Apprenticeship Scheme, but also brought in some Packaging Machinery that students could actually see working.

All students in Year 9, 10, and 11 had an allocated time to see the Colleges/Businesses.  They will now complete an evaluation about their thoughts and future plans that will help us direct our future Careers support.”

Thank-you to ALL the companies and colleges that attended this year
