Careers at Hazel Grove

At Hazel Grove High School we are always looking to see how we can bring our curriculum to life through Careers education and to ensure we meet the Gatsby Benchmarks as recommended by the government.

Our students get opportunities to meet local business people at our Careers Fair, through assemblies and at an array of trips and visits during the year.

Our careers team comprises of:

Careers at HGHS

  • Mr Street – Careers Leader, Head of Business and Careers Enterprise (
  • Mr Vickers – Deputy Head – 6th Form
  • Admin Team – Careers Support
  • Rachel Townley – Independent Careers Advisor
  • Victoria Idle - Enterprise Adviser

Within curriculum areas we have an array of interest in Careers with Careers Champions raising the profile of careers and pathways from their curriculum area.  Each curriculum area wants support – could you help – Find our more about “Give an Hour”- click here.

Review Date: June 2020

"We welcome any kind of support from local business/organisations to assist us with careers enterprise.  All colleges/further and higher educational establishments are welcome to visit the school to speak to students about the opportunities available to them.  Please feel free to contact me at the email above"

In January 2018 The government introduced a new “Statutory careers guidance for education and training providers”.  As part of this guidance we will be reviewing our current Careers provision and aligning it to encompass the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks.

Over the next two years we will be looking to develop further our connections with local colleges, apprenticeship providers and higher education facilities.  We will also look to find new opportunities to work with local employers and organisations to enhance our current links.

All our learners from Year 7 to Year 13 are engaged already in some Careers education will students able to access independent careers advice.  Most of the support is at present aligned to students in Years 10 – 13, although if students chose they can also access support and advice lower down the school.

We would encourage all students to access our Unifrog careers software at Here they can explore qualifications, jobs and progression into future careers.
