Hazel Grove High School

Girls Football

On Thursday, Miss Wood and Mr Crowshaw took the Under 13’s Stockport Champions girl’s football team to a tournament at Manchester City Football Academy.

The girls progressed through the group stages with ease, beating North Chadderton 1-0 with a goal late on from K. Nichol. Then beating All Saints 6-0 with an own goal, a goal from G. Hall and two from B. Ardern and G. Hill, we then beat Parrswood 2-0 with both goals coming from B. Hall, in our final group game we beat Wright Robinson 4-0 with goals from L. Jordan and B. Ardern and two from G. Hill.

The girls progressed through to the quarter finals where they came up against Golborne from Wigan. In the quarter final it was a very close game and thanks to the pressure and hard work from Hazel Grove, a lucky own goal decided it and took Hazel Grove through to the semi finals.

In the semi final we came up against Failsworth, who played fantastically. Hazel Grove went 1-0 down early on, but continued the fight and a marvellous goal from B. Hall brought us back into the game making it one a piece, unfortunately Failsworth then came back with an attack to make it 2-1 with five minutes to go.

The pressure from Hazel Grove nearly proved too much for Failsworth, with a constant attack on goal, working the Failsworth goalkeeper very hard, in a last gasp attempt the ball was cleared from the line as the final whistle went leaving the game 2-1.

The Hazel Grove girls fought fantastically throughout the whole game and truly did school very proud. Placing third overall in a county wide tournament of 40 schools, fantastic effort girls! Well done!
