Competitive Lacrosse returns to HGHS

HGHS Under 13’s Lacrosse Team vs U13’s Marple Hall Lacrosse Team

After two years of planning, competitive lacrosse made its return to Stockport Schools on Thursday 9th February and saw HGHS take on Marple Hall in an under 13’s fixture.  The game was played on Hazel Grove’s new 4G astro-turf field and was watched by plenty of parents and interested students.

The game was played over 4 quarters of 10 minutes.  Marple won the first half 6-2 but a spirited performance from the HGHS boys in the second half saw them come back to 7-6, eventually losing out by two goals 8-6.  The game was played with high levels of skill, sportsmanship and enjoyment and is certainly a great starting point for future lacrosse events in Stockport Schools.

Stockport is a hotbed for Lacrosse and is very fortunate to have the lion’s share of junior and senior lacrosse players in the country.

Many thanks to Stockport and Norbury Lacrosse Clubs for providing qualified referee’s for this game.

All students are involved in the successful junior Lacrosse programmes at either Stockport, Norbury or Mellor Lacrosse Clubs.  HGHS intend to extend the opportunity for contact Lacrosse in Stockport schools and plan to host a 6-a-side competition in May 2017.

Well done to all students involved.
