We have sought to create a caring environment and it is our aim to encourage a positive attitude to school, the local community and the world in general. We seek to develop sound working habits, consideration and respect for others and high standards of behaviour and self-discipline.

Students are allocated to a tutor group and, although all teachers are available to offer help and guidance, it is the form tutors who have responsibility for the day-to-day welfare and progress of each student. The Heads of Year, who oversee the work of the form tutors, move on with their year group in order to maintain a continuity of relationships.
The successful induction of new students into the school is considered to be vitally important.
The School holds an Open Evening for parents of children wishing to come to us in September. In 2009, our Open Evening will be held on 23rd September. This gives parents an opportnity to meet staff and pupils and to learn more about the school.
The School also holds a series of meetings at our local Primary Schools, whereby the Head Teacher and Senior Members of staff give a presentation to Year 5 parents informing them about our school and what they can expect.
We invite all new students to an Induction Day in June/July, prior to their September entry. They are given a guided tour of the school and have the opportunity to take part in some lessons, meeting staff, mentors, students in other year groups and also to meet other students with whom they will be starting school. The whole process of settling in to the new environment forms a large part of the Personal and Social Education programme during the first term in Year 7.
