Students are expected to work to their full potential and, as a consequence, the academic standards are high. Our school has been awarded the School Achievement Award by the Department for Education and Skills on two separate occasions for achieving these high standards.
Our able students are challenged and extended by teachers who create opportunities to broaden their understanding. Our ‘Gifted and Talented’ Programme involves intensive study days and enrichment opportunities. ‘Fast Track’ options are available and have included taking GCSE examinations early. All of our students have the opportunity of studying outside normal timetable hours by using SAM Learning.
As a Resourced School, three children are admitted each year with severe learning difficulties. There is a purpose built base, which is staffed by trained specialists and, widespread adaptions have been made to our school for disabled children.Students with special needs are fully integrated and provided with ‘in-class’ support. Students can receive additional one-to-one support as and when the need arises. The progress of each student is carefully monitored to ensure that their learning is secure. Staff encourage students to involve themselves in reviewing achievements and target setting so that progress can be rewarded and achievements celebrated.
At Hazel Grove we believe that the partnership between home and school is vital. We work to maintain a regular communication with each family; we provide reports on student progress and achievement; we provide parents with annual guides about the courses that students are following with details of how support can be given at home.
“The school provides a high quality of care for all its students. It guides and supports them very well” - OFSTED
