Science comprises of Science Investigative Skills, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Over a fortnight in Year 7 and Year 8 students have 1 of Science Investigative Skills, 2 hours of Biology, 2 hours of Chemistry and 2 hours of Physics. These lessons are designed to foster a love of Science as well preparing them for the rigours of the new Science GCSE.
In Year 9 students start the GCSE content and have 3 hours of Biology, 3 hours of Chemistry and 3 hours of Physics a fortnight. Science skills are taught within these lessons. In Year 10 and Year 11 students either continue with this course (obtaining Combined Science - 2 GCSEs) or opt for another 5 hours a fortnight of Science (obtaining Biology, Chemistry and Physics – 3 GCSEs).
In the Sixth Form we offer AQA Biology, Chemistry and Physics A Levels and this year have multiple classes due to their popularity.
The Science department has 12 teaching staff and 3 technicians. Students are taught by specialists from GCSE level onwards in the Science block which has 10 laboratories. The department runs STEM club and offers numerous opportunities for students to take part in extracurricular activities such as University trips.
