The Performing Arts Department is comprised of 4 members of staff. We are located in West Building in 2 Drama studios, and 2 Music rooms, plus a recording studio and practice rooms. We also have regular access to the Dance Studio in PE.
Students at HGHS study Performing Arts 3 hours per fortnight. This is split into Music and Drama with some elements of Dance built into the curriculum. Examples of the topics covered at Key Stage 3 in Drama include comedy in the ‘The Twits’, Physical Theatre through ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and devising on the theme of Fame. Ukelele, World Music, and Band Skills in the Madchester unit are studied in Music.
At Key Stage 4 we offer GCSE’s in Drama, Dance and Music, plus A Level Drama and Theatre Studies at Key Stage 5.
Within Performing Arts we recognise the importance of extra-curricular activities; therefore we collaborate on a variety of showcases which we ensure are accessible to all.
