End of term letter/merry Christmas
20th December 2017
As this is the final letter of 2017 can I start by thanking you collectively as a parent group for your continued support of the school. I continue to receive letters from the general public about what a great group of students we have here at Hazel Grove and I couldn’t agree more.
Our new Year 7 group have settled in remarkably well, our Year 8 and Year 9 students are continuing to impress in many subjects across the timetable and Years 10 to 13 have just completed coursework and important mock examinations in a whole host of GCSE & A level subjects. I am incredibly proud of the vast majority of our pupils who work hard, wear their uniform smartly and represent the school and themselves well.
We are pleased to announce we have no staff leaving us this term and I would like to thank them for all their hard work this term in ensuring the children here continue to get a good education.
Term dates for 2018-19 & events this year
We are already receiving requests to publish the term dates for the next academic year so please find these on the reverse of this letter. We are yet to decide on INSET days however I am conscious parents may want to book holidays around these dates so I am happy to release these earlier than usual to help ensure that children are not being taken out of school during term time. Thank you for your support with this. I am also sending home a personalised year calendar that informs you of the events still to come in 2018, please mark on your new 2018 calendar the date for your child’s upcoming parents evening.
Thank you for the huge numbers of parents who supported the recent Carol Concert, it was one of our best yet! The standard of music, dance and drama performances highlighted for me exactly why Performing Arts is one of our strongest subject areas in the school. I am pleased where many schools are cutting subjects like Music and Drama that we are bucking that trend and putting time and resources into these subjects. Well done to everyone who performed and put on such a magnificent show.
Thank you for all the kind donations of food for the Hazel Grove Food Bank, the centre were very grateful for such a large donation that will help many families this Christmas time.
A reminder school reopens to students on Monday 8th January 2018 on a Week 2 timetable.
School closure due to adverse weather
Your child should by now have brought home a letter which asked you what your child should do in the event the school has to close to due to severe weather. Please can I ask that you have returned this to your childs tutor. This is only should we experience severe weather which would make transport collections at 3:15pm or on the way to school difficult and hazardous. Please be assured we would only close the school if we felt the site or roads around the school were unsafe for the children and for school buses respectively. Please do check the school website if you are uncertain on a snow day whether the school is open or not. If you follow our Twitter feed you will also be notified there, @H_G_H_S.
May I finally take this opportunity to thank you as parents and carers for your continued support of the work of the school and the brilliant young people we have here. I wish them all a very restful holiday – they have deserved it.
May I wish your family a very happy Christmas period and best wishes for a successful and enjoyable 2018.
